Jet Lag!

Saturday 4th October
Woke up at 3am this morning, breakfast at 3.30am, if I can keep this pattern up for another week it should be a doddle getting up on race day!
Met up with Ken Glah at 7am who took us and a few others down to the swim start, when there we met up with a few guys & gals that we had met in China. Did a swim of about 40 minutes, my first non-wetsuit sea swim ! The water was quite warm think about 26 degrees which was a good thing but very very salty.

After that we when to get a spot to eat & drink at ‘Lava Java’ with Harold & Irene (dutch couple we got to know in China) to catch up on what they had been doing – 4 Ironman races to be exact with Hawaii being number 5 !

Got back to the condo and got ready to leave at 11.30am for our first experience on the bike, Gary (Endurance Sport guy) drove us and our bikes to Hapuna beach which was about 25 miles out from the Hawi turnaround point on the bike, we got on our bikes and pedalled. The legendary winds of Hawaii were definatel y out in force today, I lost count on how many times I got blown about 3 metres across the road !! A few hours later we return and my whole outlook on the race has totally changed, fear has definitely crept in! Nick is brilliant and just keeps reassuring me that everything is going to be OK. We meet up with all the other guys at the beach and everyone seems to have the same opinion about the wind....bad !!!
Got back, got showered, made some dinner and went to bed again at 9pm – I am absolutely shattered!
